Brainstorming 2/17

 Brainstorming...

After some time brain storming with my partner, we have decided to work with a teen adventure film. In other words, our opening scene will include the main character who is a teenager seeking adventure, developing a fulfilling journey by skipping school one day, through the point of view of an adolescent and showing his behavior. We have taken a bit of inspiration from the movie "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" to create a concept and make it modern.  We have concluded that we want to create a scene magnifying the hopes, dreams, and greatest fears for the future of the adolescent character throughout film, especially in the specific scene. It will be evident in the visual interest that the school will have a gloomy, dark and dull filter, but as he steps outside of school, a bright visual is shown right away. This also incorporates how our main character feels about school and how he feels as soon as he leaves.

Transitioning into portfolio project

2/13. Transitioning into the portfolio project

After discussing and going over different blogging techniques and the overall portfolio project that we will be working on for the rest of the semester, I was mentally prepared to start this project and finish this year strong. I ultimately knew that I had to gather all the knowledge I had been working on all year and use it in this final project. Techniques such as angles, camera shots, sounds effects, mise-en-scene, etc. will be put altogether into one final project. I knew that to have a better overall result with the project, I had to work with a partner that was adequate and diligent; that is why Natalie -my classmate- will work with me along this whole process. We agreed that to start the project, we wanted to develop a character through a fast paced scene, intense background music, and we really wanted to gain attention from the audience with our introduction.

Music Marketing Blog #2- Veronika Gonzalez

Since the music marketing project is finally completed, I will be discussing the behind the scenes on what my team and I were able to achieve.

One may think that making a music video with full analysis behind it for a "pop genre" song is easy many not fully understand the process. This process was far from easy -and time consuming- yet had a great outcome. As my group and I were working on the music marketing process for an Indie Pop artist, we had to fully research and analyze what Indie pop truly was. We concluded that Indie pop is becoming more well-known due to its recreation of the generic indie pop sound; it's becoming increasingly admired as the popularity with this genre continues to grow. Primarily, we acquired that our artists' target audience would be young adults, ages 16-21. It was safe to say that artists from this genre gained a lot of attention on social media platforms like Instagram and Tik-Tok. To further expand our knowledge, my group and I conducted more research on two case studies -artists from Columbia Records and RCA records- on musicians like Tyler the Creator, Harry Styles, SZA, and Chris Brown. We further studied their marketing approaches they used as online strategies to attract the public. After gathering more information and ultimately concluding to fully take advantage of social media platforms to engage with an audience, my team and I started to brain storm unique ideas to further our artist's career.
Initially, as the first step of our marketing process for our Indie Pop artist, we decided to come up with an artist name: "Rye". We chose this name because of how simple it is to pronounce- it's a very short concept, and his fans will think of this as a nick name in order to feel closer to our artist.- As my team and I kept brainstorming about his big debut single and how we were going to get it out there, we had made him an Instagram and Tik-Tok account where would be posting pictures and interacting with lots of his fans. This certainly created a friendly atmosphere, where he was comfortable posting online and his fans were comfortable interacting with him as well. The team decided to post "snippets" or mini trailers of his upcoming music video with the date of when it drops via Instagram and Tik-Tok; this had the fans going crazy. As they waited for the song and video to drop, he gained more fame as more and more people started following him and demanded the release as soon as possible.During this time we saw lots of fan reactions. Additionally, it informed the public when songs will be released while getting fans excited.
For the music video of his first hit single, the marketing team decided it would be a great idea to incorporate how "Rye" fell in love with music int he first place. We filmed the music video in his home town, where he came from, and how his love for music has made him the pop star he is today. This method had surely allowed fans to get to know our artist before the fame, and how his passion for music has changed his life. After the music video was fully filmed, edited, and practically ready to be released,
"Rye" went live on Instagram to get the fans even more excited while teasing the song, and engaging with fans a lot more as well. Again, this had created a great, friendly image for him. On the Instagram live, he also announced that he will be doing a meet and greet pop up very soon in his home town, giving away his new collection of his merchandise.
My team decided to drop his song and music video two weeks after it was previewed on social media platforms. On March 4th at midnight, the song and music video was released and distributed through Youtube, Apple Music, and Spotify. After we had fans going crazy for the drop of the song and music video, our marketing process doesn't stop there. We had our artist post a special dance with his song in the background, creating a Tik-Tok dance trend; this promotes the song to even more people as they would like to hop on the dance trend with the song! Posting pictures of the "behind the scenes" of the music video will be a way for our artist thanking his fans for making his passion for music a blessing in his life; we believe this is a great marketing technique to keep engaging with his fans throughout his career.
Overall, this project was a great learning experience that will help me with my portfolio project soon.

Music Marketing- Veronika Gonzalez

Being that Pop is a genre of popular music, my marketing team and I have decided to take advantage of this opportunity to blow up an upcoming artist through social media. Here's how it's going...

My group and I are currently working on the music marketing process for an Indie Pop artist. Indie pop is becoming more well-known due to its recreation of the generic indie pop sound; it's becoming increasingly admired as the popularity with this genre continues to grow. First and foremost, we concluded that our artists' target audience would be young adults, ages 16-21. Artists from this genre gain a lot of attention on social media platforms like Tik-Tok and Instagram. For the first step of our marketing process for our Indie Pop artist "Rye", my team decided to post "snippets" or mini trailers of his upcoming music video with the date of when it drops via Instagram and Tik-Tok- which we have created, and currently manage-. This engages his audience and we see lots of fan reactions. Additionally, it informs the public when songs will be released while getting fans excited. However before the song is released, our artist goes live on Instagram to get the fans even more excited while teasing the song, and engaging with fans a lot more as well. This creates a good, friendly image for our artist. On the Instagram live, he also announces that he will be doing a meet and greet pop up very soon in his home town, giving away his new collection of his merchandise.
For the first music video release, we have decided to recreate the story of how our artist truly fell in love with music and performing. This certainly allows fans to get to know our artist before the fame, and how his passion for music has changed his life. My group decided to drop his song and music video two weeks after it was previewed on social media platforms. On March 4th at midnight, the song and music video was released and distributed through Youtube, Apple Music, and Spotify.
After we have fans going crazy for the drop of the song and music video, our marketing process doesn't stop there. We will have our artist post a special dance with his song in the background, creating a Tik-Tok dance trend; this promotes the song to even more people as they would like to hop on the dance trend with the song! Posting pictures of the "behind the scenes" of the music video will be a way for our artist thanking his fans for making his passion for music a blessing in his life; we believe this is a great marketing technique to keep engaging with his fans throughout his career.

Action genre research

Being that the action genre is fairly fast paced, and physical action is a display of events in the story telling, the rise of action genre is associated to globalization. The interesting part of when people watch an action film is that our brain's process most of the stimuli they way it would process it in a real life situation.

Action films are a type of film genre where for the most part, protagonists are plunged into the progression of the movie and generally overcome obstacles with physical violence, chases, and dramatic rescues. They are a relatively new type of genre in the film industry, becoming a popular cinematic form. The characteristics of action films include fights, special effects, stunt work, and even explosions in some cases. All in all, action genre films are all about 'larger than life visions'. Action movies are especially popular as they translate to a global audience; as people participate in the adventure and suspense of action films, it provides them with a sense of leisure displaying a series of events. Moreover, when watching an action film, the brain is actually alert throughout; its dominant purpose is to give the audience an exciting ride. The superior target audience for action films are males around the ages of 16-25; this audience specifically seeks gratifications that action movies provide.

Action films consist of several conventions like a clearly defined protagonist/ antagonist. Usually, the protagonist's main job is to stop the antagonist and save a victim shown. It's clearly shown how the protagonist and the antagonist have a large division. Directors usually show a subject appear faster or slower using different camera movements; they focus heavily on their main character is order to show a big action sequence. When directors vary shots during a sequence, it portrays the characters emotion as well. For example, it might show the determination of a character willing to survive and their emotion with different ways to play it.

An essential element of an action genre film contains briefing, initial contact, absurd mission, and debriefing. The sub-genres are determined by the level of antagonism in the film such as the type of plots. When following an action film narrative, a cause and effect trajectory path is followed. In other words, the hero's journey is followed. These films are heavily produced and distributed in Hollywood Studios as they have an array of market segments. As action films rely heavily on their story lines, the rising action, climax, and falling action marks an impact on the film. They tend to do very well in rankings, and many of the most poplar films in the industry are actually action films. Avengers, Mission Impossible, Avatar, Suicide Squad, and even Robo-cop are  the most known action films in the modern era. Their marketing budget is typically half of their production budget; investing in social media campaigns, film trailers, and premier events are strategic ways to promote these types of films.

You probably may have heard of the Fast and Furious sequels starring Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, and Paul Walker. The media franchise concentrated in the action genre containing events like illegal street races and family ties. In 2015, this film actually reached to be the highest grossing film in the film franchise industry, grossing at around $1.5 billion dollars; the unfortunate tribute to the death of Paul Walker made this film critically successful. The storyline throughout the franchise expands through each movie as the sequel continues, attracting viewers to keep up with the racing phenomenon.

The avengers movies are also a great example of a worldwide success in the action genre industry. The creative plot of superheroes struck with disasters, truly drags the audience to keep up with the sequels as well. Each super hero has their moment of spotlight as they are the protagonist facing many problems in all films. They clearly dominate the spectrum of fighting with villains, a director use different filming techniques to show the dominant power in the super hero. With their collective social following on social medias, the marketing campaigns for these types of movies is phenomenal in every aspect.
