03/31- Final editing touches

As my partner Natali and I are almost done with the editing process of the film, we are using iMovie, the application on a Mac to edit the whole entire project. We chose the editing software iMovie because we both have Macbooks and are both very familiar with this application as we have both done previous projects on it. To summarize our editing process, we first started by importing all the clips filmed on my phone. After, we ordered them, creating sequencial scenes to our story. The real editing began when we cut out the extra footage we didn't need or didn't add any meaning to the project. This alone took a few days. However once we fully had all of the footage we needed, we added transitions, zooms, the opening title, and filters. Slowly, the production started to come to life. As for the sound editing, we decided to cut sounds into some pieces we only wanted to include in the video. Moreover, the dialogue between our characters were certainly included, as we only did slight changes to the volume.

3/15 New Actor Look..?

The actor had a different look from Oscar's but we have adjusted and overcame this problem.

Since our original actor couldn't work with us, we ended up choosing my friend Nick, as the new one. In contrast to the previous actor's blonde hair, Nick has dark brown hair. Due to the short period of time to find this new actor, we had to choose one very quickly. This meant that we only had time to gather someone who could simply do the job. This is definitely a challenge, but it is one that me and my partner have overcome. That is why our new actor came in to save the day. I was really good friends with the new actor and I knew that I could ask him to be part of this project, so I did. Thankfully, he agreed and overall, the change is not too drastic especially since he still has the same slim fit physique and fits the age range we were originally looking for.

3/14 Peer blog review...

Here are my AMAZING classmates...

Today in class, we got into groups and spoke about each others projects. We did this within a random group of students in our classroom, which allowed for non bias critics. I proceeded to narrate my production plot and was told it was very interesting and amusing. I'm quite glad that my group picked up on the humor that is in my film, even with very little dialogue. I also described Oscar, my main character who is supposed to be a charming teenager, that is running away from security, and is able to make the audience laugh at the same time. Heres a picture from today's meeting!

3/10 Project name.

3/10 Why have we chosen this name?

Coastal Vision. The official name for our portfolio film project, by Natali and I. It took a while to come up with this name though. We knew we wanted a name with the word “vision” in it as our main character in the film is certainly different among his peers, he has a vision further than everyone else. More over, his “vision” is also different in a sense of how he views things and perceives life overall, including his future-compared to everyone else at his age-. We decided to include coastal because our main character loves the beach; it’s his safe spot. As he has a rough life, all he wishes is to live by the beach, peaceful, and away from his troubles. We combined “Coastal” and “Vision” to create “Coastal vision”. My partner and I are both proud of the outcome because the name fits perfectly, and as people watch the film, they too will be able to understand the title.

3/9 Storyboard Outline...

 3/9 Our story board…

Natali, my project partner and I took about two days to fully complete our story board outline. We both contributed many ideas and put them together on the story board template. I was sketching every detail we wanted to include in our film as Natali was helping me out with the shot types to include. We ultimately hoped for every detail to be included so we could have an organized schedule on how to film each type of scene. There would be times where I would get moments of inspiration and just draw what I was imagining out on the storyboard template. Natali would just look at me in awe; she was happy that many ideas were flowing and we ended up with an outcome we were both proud of. After creating a template for our film with the story board strategy, this makes it so much easier for us to plan our film schedules, and know exactly how to approach this project.

3/8 Our Little problem...

 Our Little Problem...

My partner and I have encountered a big problem along the journey of our portfolio project. Our male actor, who would’ve played the main character of the film is going away for Spring break and will not be able to film with us. Ever since my partner and I have received the news, we have been looking for other options non-stop. It’s been harder than it seems to find a new actor with all the physical traits we’re looking for. We are also looking for a dark-humor type of person like our last actor, which a lot of people don’t have. After a few days of stressing and constantly looking for new people, we have found a semi perfect match for “nick” the main character in our film. The actors name is Oscar. He is a senior at Cypress Bay who was willing to help us film and matched perfectly with his role. He was physically similar to what we wanted him to look like and he was also very humeros: my partner Natali and I clicked with him right away. even though we solved our problem within a few days… it still had us stressing out a lot.

3/1 Color scheme

 Color Scheme...

In proportion to our overall film, we have frankly came up with two main color schemes to develop the main characters mood throughout different settings and scenes. As Nick, our main character is roaming around school in a bad mood, the grayish tints will heighten symbolism and amplify audience emotion towards what is happening. The "cool" lighting inside of the school will further show a boring and somber scene. Nick, along with everyone else -the background characters- will be wearing dull-dark clothing. Shades of Gray Color Palette

On the contrary, as soon as the climax happens, and Nick successfully escapes school and is outside, the color scheme immediately changes to bright, colorful colors, with a warm hue, reinforcing the strength of warmth in the film. Nick is ultimately on his way to the beach, and by showing these colorful schemes, the auience is fully prepared to see what happens throughout his day. His mood also completely changes as he smiles for the first time, and changes into his bright colored bathing suit. Bright And Warm Color Scheme » Bright » SchemeColor.com
