2/28 Editing software Reflection

 Editing software reflection...

Natali and I decided to use iMovie as our official editing software. This is because we are already familiar on how to use it and we have done previous project in class using iMovie. We both have MacBooks, therefore the application automatically comes installed on our computers. The amazing thing we both love about iMovie is that it is very straight forward to use. Importing visual and audio clips from our iPhones are just a click away using "Airdrop". They are imported straight to our media gallery, ready for us to use them. With audio, special effects and noises are automatically there for us to choose instead of looking them up online and downloading them. Just with those two things, it would save us a lot of time during the editing process. Lastly, the transitions on iMovie are basic and they get the job done; all we need to do is drag them wherever we want to place them in the corresponding place in the production.

2/27 Shooting Schedules

Shooting Schedules...

Figuring out shooting schedules for this project has been kind of a struggle for my partner and I as we have very busy schedules after school. I am captain of the varsity tennis team and have to attend every single practice after school, and Natali is part of many after school activities as well. This has made it a little difficult to come up with film schedules. However, we have come up with two solutions. Ms. Stoklosa lets us film during class time, therefore we will take advantage of this film time to film the character scene. We have already arranged with the security guards of Cypress Bay to help us film as well. They are more than happy to help us film;  they had no problem. Another solution we came up with is how since I have Mr. Petraitis for my study hall, I have already talked and arranged with him if it was okay if he helped us film during his study hall. Natali also has study hall, therefore we could meet up every A day, and film scenes little by little.

2/24 Target audience

Target Audience...

The media product we created was a film opening for a teen film. This means that our main target audience was teenagers. However, we have further investigated and learned that there are many different sub-categories for teen films. These sub-categories are classified as: Comedy, romantic, drama, horror, sci-fi, musicals, action, etc. Specifically, teen adventurous films are mainly targeted at teenagers because of the plot being based off their interests, like coming of age, attempting to fit in, finding out who they are, and teen rebellion. Pour primary target audience will be the specific group of people who will be most interested in seeing our film. Teenagers in order to obtain peer recognition, eager to independence, strong rebellion, the establishment of self image, they can self identificate through these type of teen adventure films. Some teen film areas that will be talked about are themes, people groups, locations (School in this instance), and storylines, (behind the mind of Nick and why he does what he does in our film). When we specifically target an audience, we talk about people from the ages of 14-25. However, when we talk about a wider audience, adults sometimes watch teen films just as much as teenagers do. This is because it keeps them 'urban' and up to date with youth culture and allows them to fantasize on how they wish they were as a teen.

These are just a few examples of other films that were aimed toward a similar target audience as us. Additionally, these statistics have clearly shown a U.S. report of what people like to watch specifically, within each genre.

Detailed Outline (actors) 2/22

 Outline Expectations for actor...

After several trials of looking for actors, my partner and I decided to choose someone who has dirty blonde hair and had a laid back, charming personality to play Nick Wayne, the main character of our production. Our chosen male actor has the exact character profile we were looking for in a person to represent Nick. Fundamentally, our character is 18 years of age, therefore we chose an 18 year old as our actor. As we were interviewing Simon -the actor-, he immediately emitted a clear impression of Nick's personality: Outgoing, charming, confident, and sarcastic. Since that moment, my partner and I knew that Simon was a perfect fit to play Nick and it would be easy for him to play him in our production.

Afterwards, my partner and I were scouting for the perfect teacher that would play Mr. Patterson in the film -the teacher that tries to stop Nick Wayne from skipping class and calls security on him-. We finally chose Mr. Petraitis from our high school to be the chosen actor for this specific film. Even though he may not be the best actor, he was undeniably willing to help us out and do the best he can. After all, he is a teacher, and during the film, he won't be doing anything he doesn't already do in his day to day life. We have chosen Mr. Petraitis for many reasons but two of them are that he's a tall, male, confident looking teacher and he is comedic and has a loud voice.

Lastly,  Mr. Petraitis gave us the bright idea to include his wife, who is a security guard at our high school to play the security guard in our production as well. Mrs. Petraitis will be playing the role of (Patricia) who chases Nick down across the school as he escapes.

Our background characters will provide an extra support role to the main character in our film. They will help strengthen the story line, and make the scene more realistic overall.

2/23 Scenery and Lighting

Setting...

My partner and I have started scouting for a perfect location to film the scene. We wanted to look for our ideal location in the 400s building at our school. We knew that these hallways were filled with natural sunlight which we wanted for our shots. The hallways in the 400s are wide and ample enough to shoot in too. This Our opening scene will take place here too. As Nick is miserably walking to class, he makes the decision to not go to his class, and instead skip school. Frankly, he gets chased down by security in this hallway.

The natural lighting coming from this window will help us beautifully film and add an effect to the mood we are trying to create. This lighting has the ability to talk. What do we mean by this? This just means that our film will benefit from the contrast of shadows, making the overall running scene edgy and mysterious as the audience figures out Nick's true personality through such a narrative. By creating a grey atmosphere at school and portraying the outside world as freedom, the audience develops a visual connection towards Nick's emotions.

2/21 Technical elements incorporated (Planning)

 Technical elements incorporated (Planning)...

Our opening scene will consist of Nick Wayne -The main character and protagonist- escaping school mid day. In order to contribute to this scene to make it more intense, we will add various sound effects. These sound effects will ultimately engage our audience, deliver adequate information, evoking emotional response. The various sound effect used will fully emphasize what is on the screen and indicate the overall intense mood of the scene. We will also be adding intense background music while the character is in full action, running away from the security guards at school. The background music will be incorporated so that the audience feels a certain way about Nick as they can relate to him in some way. The audience will subconsciously create a perspective about the film overall as it creates a mix of emotions. As for costume, our main character Nick, will be wearing modern day clothing to school -ripped jeans, hoodie, piercings,-. For lighting, the school will be shown dark and gloomy with little natural lighting. When Nick steps outside, the bright sunlight will shine on him and it will give a refreshing feeling.

Plot Aspect 2/19

Plot Aspect (Nick's running scene) 2/19

After my partner and I developed the characters background and characteristics, we decided to further come up with the upcoming plot in the opening scene. The preview will show Nick escaping school. He will be facing modern day school obstacles like security guards, cameras, and teachers that get in his way. As this is going on, the audience thinks that Nick is probably new at this and isn't typical for someone to be doing something so rebellious, but as the scene continues, the audience realizes that this is Nick's life, and this is just one of the things he typically does on his day to day life. As for the plot, when Nick is running, his friends help him escape school as they slow down the security guards when they see that Nick has trouble climbing the fence. This specific scene creates an overall intense mood.

Character 2/18

 Oscar Wayne...

Oscar Wayne. A rebellious teenager- the protagonist of our film- who is facing obstacles in order to skip school and continue his stress-free life. My partner and I decided that the film would take place in the modern world, therefore he will look like the typical high schooler from the 2020s -ripped jeans, backwards cap, charming and thoughtful to his fellow peers-. He is described as tall, slim but somewhat fit, dirty blonde hair, and very intellectual, but he doesn't try his hardest in school. Oscar Wayne gets away with things pretty easily, and this is because of his traumas at home. For instance, his mom left when he was little, and his dad is abusive at times when he's home -he's barely home-. This further develops Oscar's care-free lifestyle, rebellious characteristics as he seeks adventure while fulfilling the journey of skipping school. The opening scene of our project will develop Oscar's rebellious characteristics as the audience will feel a tense mood; this is just his typical day to day life.
